Using the Vineyard Acre Impact Calculator

This calculator uses the same assumptions as the Under the Hood analysis to estimate the economic impact of Napa vineyard acres that are skipped or removed over a five-year period.

Default assumptions:

• 3 tons of grapes per acre

• $7,000 per ton average grape price

• $350 per ton harvest and hauling cost

• $50,000 per acre for replanting

• A 10.3× multiplier from grape net revenue to total local economic output

• A 5-year time frame

The tool shows two kinds of impact:

• The one-year impact on growers from missed crop revenue.

• The 5-year community-wide impact on local economic output, including growers, wages, suppliers, tourism and local taxes, under conservative (25%), moderate (50%) and full (100%) scenarios.

You can change any of the assumptions and enter your own acreage for three scenarios:

• Acres not picked but maintained (Scenario A).

• Acres removed and not replanted to grapes (Scenario C).

• Acres removed and replanted to grapes (Scenario D).

The calculator will update both the per-acre impacts and the total 5-year and average yearly impacts for your inputs.
